What will the browns do at slot corner?

Last season, Greg Newsome played in the slot, while Denzel Ward and Martin Emerson played outside. Since then, Greg Newsome has complained about having to play in the slot. This is because the slot corner position caps his potential. Usually, mediocre corners play in the slot. This is the reason Greg Newsome was just ok last year, he couldn’t do much better in his situation. So, Greg Newsome is not the answer at slot corner.

But we have a problem, all 3 corners cannot play on the outside. So, who goes in the slot?

is the solution to trade Greg Newsome? No, a 3rd or 2nd round pick is not good value for Greg Newsome. What if we trade Martin Emerson? Again, a 3rd or 2nd round pick is not enough to trade Martin Emerson. But what about Denzel Ward? there is too much dead cap hit to trade Denzel Ward. It is too late to make trades like this anyways.

But then what do we do? First, let’s keep in mind that these 3 corners might not often be healthy at the same time. But what about when they are all healthy at the same time? To keep all 3 corners on the field, the slot corner position will be a rotation. Earlier in the offseason, Denzel Ward said he would be in the slot more often. This means he will be rotating in. Greg Newsome also said he will be on the outside and inside. This suggests that there will be a big rotation between the 3 corners on who plays in the slot. On each play, one of these 3 corners will play slot, and the other 2 will play outside.

In conclusion, I am expecting a rotation in the slot, which would include the 3 starting corners, and Cameron Mitchel. When Cameron Mitchel is in the slot, that is when one of the 3 starting corners is off the field. I think the browns will make sure none of the 3 starting corners will be in the slot too much. It was dumb of Joe Woods to force Greg Newsome to stay in the slot all year.
