Do the Browns need to sign someone like Ndamukong Suh at DT?

Perrion Winfrey was recently cut after being criminally investigated for threatening a woman with a gun. After this incident, an already present concern over the DT room has grown. Right now, the browns have Dalvin Tomlinson, Jordan Elliot, Siaki Ika, Maurice Hurst, and Trysten Hill at DT. Now with taking Perrion Winfrey out of the mix, the rumors of the possibility of singing a new DT have accelerated. A couple names that have been rumored are Ndamukong Suh and Matthew Ioannidis.

So, should the browns sign a free agent DT? I think Browns fans need to keep something in mind. We are in July, meaning there are not any high-quality options left. You can find NFL level starters, but nothing more. Browns fans see big name players who are many years away from their prime and think that they will play at a high caliber. If a “big name” player is available in July, there is a reason. If the browns go into training camp and preseason, and their DT room is awful, then they would need to get some NFL quality starters in. But if they go into training camp, and their DT is solid, then available free agents most likely wouldn’t be an upgrade.

So, is this a solid DT room, or does it need some NFL quality starters added? Of course, we don’t know for sure right now, we need to see how training camp and preseason play out. However, we can make predictions. We have Dalvin Tomlison, the big name signing. He should be the run stopping DT we were missing last season. even having someone like him alone is a huge upgrade to last season’s DT room. Then, we have Jordan Elliot. Jordan Elliot has NOT been good for the browns. However, Jim Schwartz should be able to utilize his talent significantly more than Joe Woods could. Siaka Ika is a DT that Jim Schwartz was very excited about drafting in the 3rd round. Maurice Hurst, if healthy, could be a nice addition to the DT room as well. And don’t forget.

In Conclusion, I think with the upgraded rotation of Dalvin Tomlinson, Jordan Elliot, Siaka Iki, and Maurice Hurst, coupled with the huge upgrade at defensive coordinator, this DT room will be fine. But still, we must keep an eye on them in camp, and if things don’t go as well as hoped, we may need to explore free agent options. If we do need to explore free agency, an older more regressed option like Ndamukong Suh, might not be the way to go.
